No. 20 Taft Tops CVC Teams Heading Into Conference Play

The 2025-26 Central Valley Conference women's basketball schedule gets underway on Wednesday (Jan. 7) with seven teams going to battle for a CVC title and automatic bid into the Northern California Regional Playoffs.

It should be a great year for the CVC with four teams entering conference play with winning records while three squads are currently ranked among the state's top-25.

Taft College is off to another fantastic start under third-year head coach Romeo Lagmay Jr. The Cougars enter the new year with a 14-2 overall record and are ranked No. 20 in this week's CCCWBCA State Poll.

Taft opened the season by winning its first 12 games. The Cougars suffered just their second loss on Dec. 30 and will look to bounce back with an early test against defending conference champion College of the Sequoias in both teams' CVC opener on Wednesday.

Despite a 7-9 overall record, COS is still highly favored by state coaches. The Giants are ranked 17th in this week's state poll and will look to turn things around having lost four of their last five games.

Fresno City College checks in with a 10-6 record in non-conference games and is tabbed as the No. 19 team in the state. Lemoore College and Reedley College are also both off to solid starts with identical 11-5 marks. The Golden Eagles head into CVC play riding a seven-game winning streak.

Merced College (7-9) and Porterville (2-14) round out the CVC field and will look to make a run in conference play.

Opening-nigh matchups include:
Lemoore at Reedley
Taft at Sequoias
Merced at Porterville
